How to Use Autodub

Autodub streamlines the dubbing process by automatically sending approved audio into your station’s playout system. Once you know the requirements and workflow, it becomes a fast and reliable part of your daily process.

Autodub Setup Requirements

For a spot to qualify for autodubbing, the following must be in place:

  1. Final Spot file attached

  2. CartID added (does not need to be scheduled)

  3. Status set to Needs Dubbing

  4. No warnings showing in the Status column

  5. Mark the QC checkbox once reviewed

If any of these are missing, autodub will not run.

What to do if there is a warning

Autodub configurations may be set to warn you if

1. The audio file was saved using a variable bitrate mode

2. The file was recorded in Mono Channel instead of Stereo

3. The Spot length is out of spec - This means that the length of the audio attached does not match the length requested and is not within the allowable limits set in the configuration. Typical allowable limits are 1 to 2 seconds over or under the requested length. 

 

If your organization is set up to detect these warnings, any audio file attached as a Final Spot with the status Needs Dubbing will be automatically verified. Should a warning appear, resolve it by removing the flagged file, addressing the specific issue indicated, and reuploading the corrected Final Spot. Alternatively, you may bypass the warning by selecting Verify, which will dismiss the alert and proceed with autodubbing the file.

Performing the Quality Check (QC)

A human review of the audio is always required before autodubbing.

  • Listen to the spot to ensure it is of good quality

  • Check for Slate Tones or any other extra tones that need to be clipped.

  • Mark the QC checkbox once reviewed.

    • This triggers the system to expose the audio via API for the playout system to pick up.

Assigning Jobs (or Not)

  • No need to assign a person for QC. The system automatically assigns the user who checks the QC box as the approver.

  • Do not assign a dubber to autodub spots. Once audio is picked up, the system automatically assigns the vendor (e.g., WideOrbit) as the dubber.

Autodub Eligibility

  • Available only for terrestrial stations.

  • Digital-only or streaming configurations are not supported.

Autodub Folders Overview

You can track autodubbed spots and issues in the following folders: 

  • Autodub – Holds successfully picked up spots for 24 hours.

  • Missing QCs – Shows spots that need a QC review.

  • Autodub Failures – Shows spots with warnings that prevented autodubbing.

Permissions

To participate in autodub, users need:

  • qcapprover ability – to mark the QC checkbox.

  • isdubber ability – to access autodub folders (after integration is enabled).

Manual Dubbing (Alternative to Autodub)

If you prefer not to use autodub:

  • Mark the Dubbed and Scheduled checkboxes manually.

  • This records dubbing as complete without the automated process.

  • The user that marks the Dubbed checkbox will be assigned to the job.
