Daypart Planning in Scheduling

Daypart Planning is a scheduling method that allows you to control when content run within specific parts of the day, without focusing on exact times.

For Liners, Contests, Promos, PSAs, and Other Programming Elements

Daypart Planning allows you to control when specific programming &promotions elements—such as liners, promos, contests, or PSAs—are scheduled throughout the day.

Daypart Planning is ideal when you want to schedule an item within a specific daypart, focusing on the date and daypart rather than the exact time it runs.

Step 1: Create Your Programming Element

Before you can use Daypart Planning, you must first create the item you want to schedule.

Examples of content include:

  • Liners

  • Promos

  • PSAs

  • Contests

  • Etc.

Once your item is created and configured (including the number of times it should run), you’re ready to move to daypart planning.

Step 2: Access Daypart Planning

  1. Go to:
Programming > Scheduling > Utilities > Planning by Dayparts

  2. Enter your Flight Dates in the Daypart Planning for the Period field.
(Flight dates are the date range you want your content to run.)

  3. In Item Type to Daypart Plan, select the type(s) you want to schedule, such as:

    • Contest

    • Liner

    • Promo

    • PSA

    • Etc.

Only one content item can be selected at a time when using Daypart Planning (e.g., contest, liner, promo, etc.).

  1. Click Submit.

Step 3: Allocate by Dayparts

Once you submit, the system will display:

  • Day (each day within your flight dates)

  • # Remaining to Allocate (how many instances still need to be scheduled)

  • Dayparts (e.g., Morning Drive, Midday, Afternoon Drive, Evening, Overnight)

To allocate:

  1. For each daypart, enter the number of times you want the content to run.

  2. The system will distribute these runs according to the total number you entered when creating the item.
(Example: If your contest is set to run 5 times per day, you could assign 2 to Morning, 2 to Afternoon, and 1 to Evening.)

  3. Click Save.

Step 4: Scheduling

Once Daypart Planning is complete, you’ll move onto scheduling:

  1. Go to:
    Programming > Scheduling > Scheduling

  2. Set Schedule for the Period to your flight dates.

  3. Under Schedule These Items, select your desired programming types (liners, contests, promos, etc.).

  4. For Scheduling Method, choose Daypart Planning.

  5. In Which Scheduling Clock to Use, select your desired clock.

  6. Complete the scheduling process as normal. Similar to “follow the rules,” the system will schedule your content based on the details you’ve set in Daypart Planning. If nothing appears, click “relax the rules” in the pop-up section within the Scheduling tab.

  7. Click the Save & Finalize button.

Tips for Success

  • Always double-check your # Remaining to Allocate before saving to ensure all spots are filled.

  • If you need to adjust runs mid-flight, you can revisit Planning by Dayparts and update allocations.
